ASCII Computer Center Pilot Protection Plan What is a Pilot Protection Plan? The Pilot Protection Plan (or "PPP" for short) is a way for you to get years of service out of your PalmPilot, Palm3, or WorkPad without the worry of damage not covered by a manufacturer's warranty. The PPP protects you from such things as damage from the elements, breakage, and failure outside the manufacturer's warranty. It does not cover loss or theft of your Pilot, loss of the use of your Pilot, loss of data, or any other consequential damages. What is Covered? The PPP will pay to repair or replace your Pilot within the covered period for the following losses: 1. Water Damage (other than due to total immersion) 2. Breakage from being dropped 3. Malfunction not covered by Manufacturer's Warranty What is NOT Covered? Loss, theft, loss of use, loss of data, consequential damages, damage to any product other than the covered unit, or damage to any accessories. Cosmetic damage which does not adversely affect the functionality of the PalmPilot is not covered. No unit which has an altered or defaced serial number will be covered. Damage caused by completely submersing the unit in liquid, fire damage, or the destruction of the unit by subjecting it to a crushing force (such as running over it with a car). Who is Eligible for the PPP? Anyone who purchases a PalmPilot, Palm3, or WorkPad from ASCII Computer Center who pays the required fee and registers within 30 days of invoice purchase date. ASCII may decline coverage by failing to charge you for coverage within 7 days of receipt or, if payment is by check, by returning your check to you uncashed. How Long is Coverage Good for? Coverage is available for annual one-year terms. The initial cost is $30 for one year from date of purchase. You may cancel your coverage at any time and receive a pro-rated refund of your annual coverage cost. We can also cancel coverage, but we will also give you a pro-rated refund and repair or replace your unit if there is an outstanding claim. What Happens When I Need It? You call us at (954) 925-1313 and give us your PPP number (assigned upon enrollment). We will then give you a return authorization for your unit. Upon receipt, we will repair or replace your unit within 7 days of receipt and send you back the unit. What If You Cannot Repair My Unit Within a Week? If we cannot repair your unit within a week, we will either replace your unit with the same model (or comparable replacement model) or send you a loaner unit until we complete repairs. Even if we provide you with a loaner unit, we must complete repairs of your unit within 30 days of our receipt or you will be given a replacement unit. The cost of returning the loaner unit to us and the cost of shipping the loaner and/or repaired and/or replacement unit to you is at our expense. What If the Repair Doesn't Work? After the first repair attempt for the same problem within any 30-day period, we pay all freight to bring the unit back to us for further repairs. Also, we provide you with an immediate loaner unit. At your option, you can simply "exchange" your unit for the loaner unit. If the unit fails again within 30 days for the same problem, we will provide you with a replacement unit. What If I Want to Have the Unit Serviced Elsewhere? We do not reimburse you for repairs made other than through us, though we may arrange for a repair directly with US Robotics (at our expense) if the first repair attempt is unsuccessful. What About Extended Plans? You can purchase additional coverage at the inception of coverage for $55 for 2 years or $75 for 3 years. Of course, you can always cancel and get a pro-rated refund (based upon $30 for the first year, $25 for the second year, $20 for the third year). You can't lose! What About Scratches and Blemishes? Purely cosmetic scratches and blemishes are not covered, but if a scratch or blemish interferes with the use of the PalmPilot (such as a scratch on the writing surface) it is covered. In short, we will ensure a fully functional PalmPilot for the term of coverage. What Is "Too Much Damage" to Repair? If you drop the PalmPilot and it breaks, it is covered. If you leave it on your desk and spill your coffee on it, it is covered. If you drop it in the pool (total immersion), it is not covered. If you run over it with a semi- truck, it's not covered (crushing force).
